Hello PALH Members,
It is with great honor that I would like to welcome our newest PA School Membership Cohort addition with 5 Faculty and 30 PA Students.
College of Saint Mary PA Program established in 2016, offers a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree, with a 24-month program that begins in August with a maximum class size of 40 students.
Commitment to Diversity: CSM encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply to the PA program.
The mission of the College of Saint Mary Physician Assistant Studies Program is to establish an educational environment fostering academic excellence and leadership, to prepare students to become competent Physician Assistants who possess the knowledge, compassion, and clinical skills necessary to provide high quality medical care to all patient populations, including those that are underserved.
Program Competencies
Medical Knowledge
- Assess the clinical presentation of common conditions and injuries to include acute, chronic, and emergent and determine appropriate strategies of treatment and clinical management
- Describe the most commonly used diagnostic and laboratory studies used in primary care and interpret the results
- Apply the principles of health maintenance and disease prevention
Critical Reasoning
- Construct a differential diagnosis for common acute, chronic, and emergent clinical conditions using clinical reasoning skills
Clinical and Technical Skills
- Prepare an accurate medical history for patients including issues related to gender, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic factors
- Perform an appropriate physical exam based on patient presentation
- Perform routine office-based procedures with appropriate technique
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, colleagues, and other staff
- Demonstrate proper documentation and utilize effective written and oral skills to elicit and deliver information
Professionalism
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to integrate clinical care
- Articulate the importance of ethical care in clinical practice
It is imperative that we continue to strive to support greater diversity within our PA profession so that we can more adequately care for our communities and provide a balanced, equitable and inclusive environment that our patients deserve.
This unique program features a shorter program in 24 months; Smaller class size; Open door policy with faculty; Cadaver Lab with technology; On campus simulation labs; and Individualized placement for clinical rotations.
Welcome again and we hope to engage more PA schools that value the importance of our mission and vision as we also support the PA program and provide a way for our students to engage and grow together.
