AAPA seeking a volunteer for the organization on the CPT Health Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC)

Posted 12 months ago

AAPA is seeking a volunteer to represent the Academy as an alternate member on an ongoing multi-disciplinary committee that evaluates the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) medical coding process.

The CPT Health Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC) is an expert panel of health professionals that makes recommendations on CPT coding activities. Under the auspices of the American Medical Association (AMA), the CPT HCPAC regularly reviews new medical services and procedures to determine whether those services will be included in CPT, and whether certain services and procedures that are presently in the CPT system have become outdated and need to be removed from the system, or if changes in the code descriptors need to occur. The group provides its recommendations to the AMA for the organization’s consideration.

The CPT HCPAC is comprised of volunteers that represent each sector of medicine, including primary and specialty care. Candidates should have an interest in or familiarity with medical coding and documentation.

The volunteer member would be required to attend a two-day meeting once per year. AAPA covers all travel-related expenses. Contact Michael Powe, AAPA’s vice president of Reimbursement & Professional Advocacy at michael@aapa.org with any questions.

The deadline to apply is May 30, 2023.
